Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is for those skilled workers who are qualified in skilled trade and they want to live and work in Canada permanently by getting Permanent Residency of Canada.

Minimum Requirements for Eligibility

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will assess the applications of those Skilled Workers for the purpose of Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) who have satisfied the minimum requirements which are mentioned below:

To be eligible a skilled worker must

meet the CLB Level 5 for speaking and listening and CLB Level 4 for reading and writing.
have at least 2 years of full time paid Canadian or foreign work experience (or an equal amount of part time work experience) in a skilled trade under key groups of National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type B within the last 5 years.
have a valid paid job offer of full time employment for a duration of at least 1 year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian institute.
meet the job requirements for the skilled trade according to National Occupational Classification (NOC) which has been offered to him on the basis of which he/she will apply for Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

1- Education

There is no requirement of education from skilled workers for the purpose of Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). But if the skilled workers want to improve their rank in Express Entry Pool they can do this if they have a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian educational institute or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for immigration purposes from one designated organization out of seven if the education is obtained from an educational institute which is outside Canada.

2- Skilled Work Experience

Skilled work experience should be according to the skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program which are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks
Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers

The major NOC groups mentioned above are subdivided into different occupations, and they are all skill type B.

3- Language Ability

Skilled workers should meet the minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for speaking and listening, and Canadian Language Benchmark 4 for reading and writing

For meeting the minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark skilled workers should take an approved language test to prove their language ability.

Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English

Skilled workers can take any of the following language tests which are accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
